Sept 3 – HEAVY SPORTS AND TUG OF WAR CONTESTS

HEAVY SPORTS

Canmore Highland Games

A spectator sport if there ever was one, these events are a real thrill to watch at the Canmore Highland Games. The Heavies consist of Putting the Stone (light), Putting the Stone (heavy), 56 lb. Weight Throw, 28 lb. Weight Throw, 22 lb. Hammer Throw, 16 lb. Hammer Throw, 56 lb. Over The Bar, Sheaf Toss, and Caber Toss. The sports area is located on the Southside of Centennial Park adjacent to 5 St. and 6 Ave. One of our three entrance gates is at this point. The Tug of War is a demonstration of strength, skill, and teamwork – exciting to watch!

Registration

Sports competitors need to register before Thursday, August 31, 2022.

Competitors do not need to pay a gate or entry fee.

Kilted attire is preferred. Cash prizes are offered.

Contest Start

The sports contest begins at 8:30 am, and runs all day to complete.

TUG OF WAR

Always a great show, the Tug of War is an amazing feat of strength from the teams who are vying to go home with the money – final winnings depend on how many teams are entered. The winning team in both Men’s and Women’s categories will take away a $1,000 cash prize for up to 4 teams, or $2000 for 5 teams and up.


Contest Times

The Tug of War contest starts at approximately 2:30 pm, Sunday, September 4 on the Heavy Sports field.

Final pull-offs for grand prize winners will be at approximately 4:30 pm on the Main Field.

Registration

Men’s Teams: 8-man team, 1600 lbs. (115 stone) maximum, plus coach, no cleats
Women’s Teams: 8-woman team, 1120 lbs. (80 stone) maximum, plus coach, no cleats

Entry fee (See registration link below):
Option 1 – $500 per team includes entry to the Games
Option 2 – $1500 per team, 8 man team plus coach, includes 9 entries to the Games, 9 entries to the Taste of the Highlands, 9 entries to the Ceilidh!
